Meet the Artist
From Stethoscope to Paint Brush
This is my story. Life has an interesting way of presenting different opportunities, and it can be challenging to make a decision, especially when there are so many opinions around, usually with the best of intentions.
I worked hard to get into medicine and really thought that I wanted to work as a doctor. I worked hard during my studies, but soon realised that this was not the path for me. After graduating I looked for other possibilities. I had a feeling that there was something else for me, and I wanted to find out what that meant.
That’s when I met a greatly gifted artist, Rene Snyman, who introduced me to the world of classical realism and representational art. I couldn’t get enough. I have taught art lessons over the years and discovered my love for teaching along the way.
In 2022 I started a Master’s degree at the Florence Academy of Art, a course designed specifically for art educators. I couldn’t believe it: I had found my tribe! In 2024 I had the most amazing experience in Florence, Italy, where I graduated from the Florence Academy of Art.
It has been a crazy journey, and God is so faithful.

Purpose
Created to Create
I truly believe that we are all made intentionally and for a purpose. We have certain interests and attributes, and the amazing ability to learn new skills, to step into the person God has made us to be.
I know that I want to create artworks that inspire, and I also want to teach and help others to do the same.

About My Art
My work is informed by and rooted in the classical principles of the old masters. As part of my atelier training we are encouraged to work from life as much as possible. It is the best way to learn, and to really observe the richness of the visual world around us.
The more you paint from life, the more you practise your visual memory. Then, if I really need to work from a photograph, I can interpret it using the knowledge I gained by painting from life. I mostly work with oil paint, graphite and charcoal.

Custom Work
Commissions
I take on custom commissions, and I love to work from life. If you have a special object you would like captured in oil paint, or a view that you love, I can paint it for you. I also do portrait and figure work.
The final cost is determined by the size and medium of the artwork. I work in oil paint and acrylic paint, as well as charcoal and graphite, and I use artist-grade materials so that your art investment stands the test of time.
I reserve the right not to take on a commission if I already have a full schedule of classes and commissions for the term.
You are most welcome to contact me to talk about a custom piece that you and future generations will cherish.
Out of the Studio
Plein Air Painting
I love stepping out of my studio from time to time to spend time in nature. It is so exhilarating to paint against the clock of changing light.
If you know of a beautiful spot and would like it captured in an oil painting, let me know.
