Classical Methods
Atelier Training
Atelier (pronounced “ah-TEL-ee-yay”) is French for “workshop” or “artist’s studio”. The word has come to stand for today’s revival of 19th-century academic art training.
An atelier course of study starts with copying master drawings and progresses to drawing plaster casts of classical sculpture, in preparation for figure drawing and painting from life. Landscape, still life and portrait painting are often part of the curriculum too.

Florence Academy of Art · Italy
MA in Studio Art
Tiana Goosen graduated in 2024 with an MA in Studio Art from The Florence Academy of Art in Italy, studied through the School of Atelier Arts. The programme is designed for art educators and focuses on classical methods in painting and drawing.

Tiana is one of the founding members of Cornerstone Art Atelier, which aims to offer fine art atelier training of an international standard, accessible to artists of all ages in South Africa who are interested in classical representational art and the techniques of the old masters. The atelier hosts workshops and courses that teach classical methods through hands-on practice and an understanding of the artist’s materials.
